Go on a panoramic tour of the more modern parts of Havana, with time at Revolution Square for taking photos. Visit the Bocoy Rum Distillery. Excursion to Viñales

Visit a cigar factory and the House of Rum. See the Los Jazmines lookout point and a tobacco plantation next to the town's tobacco stripping shed or the Tobacco Planter's House in Viñales. Havana: History

An air-conditioned bus will pick you up at your hotel and take you to Old Havana. Walk through Old Havana, which UNESCO has declared to be a part of world heritage. The tour includes Cathedral, San Francisco de Asís, Old and Arms Squares. Visit a museum. Free time. Lunch. Then ride through other parts of Havana, especially the Vedado and Miramar residential areas. Visit Colón Cemetery. Time in Revolution Square and in front of the Capitol for taking photos. Cienfuegos-Trinidad

An air-conditioned bus will pick you up at your hotel. Make a stop at the La Finquita Tourist Information Centre. Visit the city of Cienfuegos on the way to Trinidad and tour the latter, which UNESCO has declared to be a part of world heritage. Visit Main and Jigüe Squares, Potters' House and a handicrafts market. Lunch. Visit Cantero Palace and the Museum of the City. Free time. Return to Varadero, with a stopover on the way. Excursions from Cienfuegos

Tour of the City of Cienfuegos

Go sightseeing in the oldest part of the city of Cienfuegos-the only Cuban city to have been founded in the 19th century-which has been declared a national monument in recognition of its architectural and heritage values. Visit José Martí Park, the Purísima Concepción Cathedral, the Tomás Terry Theatre, the Cuban Arts and Crafts Foundation, the El Palatino Inn, the Provincial Museum and the La Unión Hotel.

The tour continues along Prado Avenue, the longest street in Cuba, which hugs the city's beautiful Jagua Bay before leading to the Punta Gorda residential district. See the Cienfuegos Club, a building that recalls the best local nautical traditions and is now used for a variety of purposes. The tour winds up at De Valle Palace, a jewel of 20th-century architecture.

Excursion to El Nicho

El Nicho, an impressive waterfall with natural pools, is just 29 miles (46 kilometres) from the city of Cienfuegos. Enjoy the beautiful scenery in the Escambray Mountains: native birds, endemic plants, hiking and caves. Farm lunch in the area.

Excursions from Trinidad

Mountain Adventure

An all-purpose truck will pick you up and take you into the Escambray Mountains. Stop at a lookout point more than 1640 feet (500 meters) above sea level to take photos. Then continue on up to Topes de Collantes, on a plateau around 2560 feet (780 meters) above sea level. On the way, you can see coffee plantations and forests of different species of trees (mahogany, cedar, tree hibiscus, eucalyptus and pine).

Continue your trip to the Charco Azul area, with its Guanayara Park. Welcome, including a cocktail. Go along the trail. Visit El Rocío Waterfall and El Venado Pool. Take a dip in the clear water in both places, if you like. Have an exquisite typical Cuban lunch at Gallega House, including a local delicacy. Free time. Return to Trinidad.

The City and Its History. Trinidad Special

An air-conditioned bus will take you to the train station, where you'll board a train pulled by a steam locomotive that was made in 1919 for a ride through beautiful Sugarmill Valley to the tiny town of Manaca Iznaga, site of the Iznaga Sugar Mill, which was one of the most productive sugar mills in operation during the first half of the 19th century. Visit the "big house" that belonged to the Iznaga family, with its small sugarcane press in the back yard. As an optional, visit the tower from which overseers used to keep an eye on the slaves working in the fields. It is now a symbol of the city. Transfer by bus to a lookout point from which you get a great view of the valley. Then back to Trinidad to visit Potters' House and continue your tour to the oldest part of the city. Have lunch in a Cubanacán restaurant.

Visit Jigüe Square, site of the Mass that was held during the ceremony founding the city. In this same place, in December 1988, UNESCO declared the city to be a part of world heritage. Tour the main square, visit a museum in the city (the Municipal Museum of History, Cantero Palace, the Romantic Museum or Brunet Palace) and other places of historic interest. Tour the handicrafts market in Las Tres Palmas Square and the musical instrument workshop pertaining to the Cuban Arts and Crafts Foundation, near the square. Visit the House of Cigars, Rum and Coffee. Return to your hotel.

Excursions from Santa Clara

Good Morning, Santa Clara

Visit the Marta Abreu Central University of Las Villas, Che's first headquarters and his base for liberating the city of Santa Clara. Go by the old Public Works building-the Rebel Army's second command post during the Revolutionary War and now the provincial headquarters of the Communist Party of Cuba. Time for taking photos at The Children's Che, a sculptural work inspired by that outstanding man. Visit the armoured train monument; Carmen Park, where the city was founded on July 15, 1689; and the monument to El Vaquerito (the "Little Cowboy," head of the Rebel Army's suicide platoon, who lost his life in December 1958, during the final days of the fighting). Tour the oldest part of the city, including Leoncio Vidal Park; La Caridad Theatre; and the old Palace of Government (now the provincial library), which has been declared a national monument-all scenes of important battles during the liberation of the city.

Visit the Ernesto Guevara Memorial, which contains the remains of Che and his comrades in the guerrilla war in Bolivia. Have lunch in the La Arboleda Restaurant at Villa La Granjita.

Isle of Sugar

Go to Caibarién and Remedios in an open tourist train pulled by a steam locomotive that was built in 1900. Visit the Marcelo Salado Sugar mill Museum. Tour the locomotive repair shop. Visit a field of sugarcane at Mi Cabaña Farm, where you can feed the animals, yoke oxen and go for a ride in an ox-drawn cart, help make sugarcane juice and watch a demonstration of climbing and topping a royal palm tree. Sample a glass of refreshing coconut milk.

Have a country-style lunch at Mi Cabaña Farm. Tour the oldest part of the city of Remedios, which has been declared a national monument.

Cuba in Full Color

Take an air-conditioned bus to a sugar mill. Go for a ride in a train pulled by a steam locomotive made in 1927 to see fields of sugarcane. Have a typical Cuban lunch (drink included) to a traditional musical accompaniment. Visit the La Rosa Cooperative's crocodile-breeding farm. Explore the city of Morón in a horse-drawn carriage and visit Martí and Agramonte Parks. Havana
